I was given a pack of this coffee as a gift and it had been sitting around for quite a while (over a year) when I decided to try it. It was without a doubt one of the best coffees that I have tasted. Very smooth and flavorful. I would highly recommend this. After that I ordered a supply from Amazon. They are vacuum packed (I believe much better than store bought coffee). I may try the decaf version of this to see how that tastes.

"Great espresso at a great price" 2010-03-02

I just received my order of Lavazza Espresso bar.

The espresso I made with it (I usually pull a double ristretto - 14 grams of coffee into the portafilter, and I pull about a 1 ounce shot) was rich, sweet and syrupy, with mild acidity and lots of fruity, nutty, and chocolatey notes. It had thick, rich crema on top.

It's a little more acidic than the Lavazza "crema e gusto", and a bit less acidic than the Lavazza that comes in the black can. Similar acidity level to the Illy medium roast espresso. Just right for my taste, but obviously, everyone has different preferences on the matter.

Obviously, pre-ground espresso can't be as good as the best ground-right-before-brewing espresso (like going to Blue Bottle, or Intelligentsia), but as far as pre-ground espresso goes, this is about as good as it gets.

While in Italy on vacation, I fell in love with the Italian coffee. My fiance bought me a Bialetti Moka Express and sent me home with a four pack of some other brand of coffee. When I got home, I found Amazon had Lavazza, and as I had had mostly Crema Y Gusto while I was in Italy, I ordered that. I also decided to try any other varieties of Lavazza I could find. This was my fourth, and absolutely the best! This has no bitterness. It is rich like a smooth, dark, hot chocolate. I would recommend this coffee over ANY other Lavazza! I order 4 bricks a month through the subscribe & save, and as an Amazon Prime customer I pay no shipping cost and receive my coffee within two days - usually overnight!

You just can't lose with this coffee, and with Amazon!!

I ordered this based on the one positive reveiw, and at the time thought this espresso would have a nice mild, sweet finish it did not. I thought it was one of the worst tasting espressos to date. If you enjoy tree bark order this one you will be happy.

When my husband and I decided to start making our own lattes, and cappacinos at home, I began trying different espresso coffees. Allessi, by far, is a smooth strong flavored coffee that I use to buy at our local grocery store for $8.00. So not only does it taste good, this is a very reasonable price. The finer the grind, the more flavorful the coffee and I haven't seen a coffee ground quite as well as Alessi. I also like the fact that it is vacumn sealed in a tin, not plastic. Out of all the Italian espresso I've tried, I think Illy is the best. But how can a regular espresso drinker afford the usual $14/can price? I was ecstatic to find Ferrara decaf because not only is it just as good as Illy, but it's a quarter the price! I love it and am happy to have finally found an affordable way to drink real Italian espresso every day. I've tried Lavazza and although it's fine, it's just not as smooth and delicious as Ferrara or Illy...it tastes cheaper. Finally, I can replicate the coffee I had in Europe! And as for Starbucks espresso and cappucino, just forget it...it just doesn't measure up in terms of taste or price. I recommend a Bialetti Moka pot.

I originally started drinking Cafe Altura Dark Roast Decaf when I was pregnant, as I wanted to avoid caffeine. I chose this decaf because it's made with the Swiss Water Method, meaning there are absolutely no harmful chemicals. I continued to drink the Dark Roast while breastfeeding, but after that I started drinking regular coffee again. However, after just a month, I'm switching back to this Dark Roast Decaf. I like the taste, and I feel healthier drinking it. Like the previous reviewer, I probably make it a little stronger than the instructions specify--but then I do that with all coffee. If you're looking for a healthy alternative way to start your day (sans Folgers in your cup), this is a good option.

If you're looking for a full-bodied, rich dark-roast decaf, keep looking. The only way to make this coffee worth drinking is to use 1.5 times the amount I usually use for a dark roast. Even then, it's nothing special.

Most roasters go too dark with their espresso, which explains why many people expect espresso to be very dark and bitter. Good espresso is rich, heavy-bodied, and almost syrupy. Most people prefer to have their espresso in a cafe latte or other steamed-milk based drinks. After getting an email from Amazon noting that this coffee was on a closeout sale at 40% off the regular price, I stumbled on an additional 20% off coupon. A 60% discount?? Too good to be true, but it all worked!

Even if the coffee was a touch above average, I'd be well satisfied. It was terrific. I bought a few "on-sale" varieties from Camano Island Coffee Roasters, vacuum packed them, and put them in my freezer. A great buy on excellent coffee.

Sumatra roasts have typically been some of my favorite coffees. This Camano Island Sumatra is among the best. It's got exactly what I'm looking for: a nice, bold flavor without too much acidity. There are some hints of chocolate in there that made me compare it to Trader Joe's MochaJava. It's a great afternoon or evening coffee, especially with a rich desert since it has the character to contend with the sweetness of a rich cake.

The price is remarkable for the quality of the coffee. You could pay $15 a pound for some 'premier' coffee from the likes of Intelligentsia, but I don't feel the price difference is at all warranted when you can get a coffee this good for half as much. Are there better coffees out there? Sure, but they're not that much better at 2-3x the price.

This is well worth getting if you like Sumatra style roasts.
